About 6xxx Series Alloys
The 6xxx series are versatile, heat treatable, highly formable, weldable and have moderately high strength coupled with excellent corrosion resistance. Alloys in this series contain silicon and magnesium in order to form magnesium silicide within the alloy. Extrusion products from the 6xxx series are the first choice for architectural and structural applications. Alloy 6061 is the most widely used alloy in this series and is often used in truck and marine frames. Additionally, the iPhone 6 extrusion was made from 6xxx series alloy.
Characteristics
6060 T5 aluminium is suitable for intricate sections of light and medium strength. High corrosion resistance, good surface finish, anodises well.
Applications
6060 T5 is a non-structural alloy. Typical applications include pipe, railings, furniture, and architectural extrusions such as glazing bars, window frames and general purpose extrusions.
Technical Specifications
The guaranteed minimum mechanical properties of 6060-T5 are the same as for the alloy 6063-T5. Therefore use the 6063-T5 data in AS 1664 for alloy 6060-T5.
