Gear Cutting & Precision Drive Components
APAC manufactures gears, splines, and drive components from simple spur and helical types through to precision globoid (double-enveloping worm) and hypoid gears. All work is carried out in-house with 3D CAD design, CNC machining, and inspection - covering steel, alloys, engineering plastics, and composites.
There is no gear type we cannot produce. Our range covers standard spur and helical gears, spiral bevel gears, worm wheels and shafts, internal splines and keyways, and the more complex globoid and hypoid geometries that many shops decline. We also produce matching shafts, housings, and mounting hardware so your gearing arrives as a ready-to-install assembly where required.
Advanced Gear Geometries Explained
Standard worm gears transmit power between non-parallel, non-intersecting shafts but only achieve full engagement on the central thread. A globoid (double-enveloping) worm gear modifies both the gear tooth profile and the worm thread shape into an hourglass form, producing full engagement across all threads simultaneously. The result is significantly higher load capacity and smoother power transfer for the same package size.
Hypoid gears are a specialised form of spiral bevel gear where the pinion axis is offset from the ring gear axis. The pitch surface follows a hyperbolic profile rather than a simple cone, which increases tooth contact area and allows more compact right-angle drive designs — a geometry commonly seen in vehicle differentials. Manufacturing hypoid gears demands tighter machine control and toolpath accuracy than standard spiral bevels, which is why many general machining shops don't offer them. APAC has the multi-axis CNC capability and the practical experience to produce both globoid and hypoid gears reliably and repeatably.
